Creative Psychotherapy is the intentional use of creative and activity-based methods for the purpose of therapy and healing of the soul.
The language of the soul is in images, and so, sometimes when we have something that we haven’t been able to process, or a pattern that keeps repeating, talking about it doesn’t always transform it in the way that we would like.
When we use natural objects, picture cards, simple art and written exercises, and connect to the body, walk in nature, and do simple ceremonies, we can access wisdom and insight which is so helpful in the therapy process.
I work very intuitively, have been a qualified practitioner for over 20 years, and have a huge toolbox of practices that can be of help in transforming old patterns.
You don’t need to be an artist or creative to enjoy this process. All activities are simple and perfect for beginners.

About your practitioner
I have a vast toolbox gained from continual professional development, and with you, we will journey together weaving creativity, nature, meditation, structured exercises, the sacred, ceremony, healing, psychotherapy, and forgiveness together with a good dose of gentleness, humour and self-compassion.
I am so moved by the profound shifts that happen when someone chooses to transform their life, and I am honoured to offer this to you.
What happens during a Creative Psychotherapy session?
During the 90 minute introductory session, we will chat about what is happening for you in your life, and what you would most like to transform, change and improve, and what may be getting in the way. It is an opportunity for us both to get a sense if we are a good fit to work together. If we are, I will invite you to undertake a series of seven sessions (my minimum commitment).
There is no typical creative psychotherapy session, as each session is unique, and you may need different tools to help you at different times.
However, we will often follow a similar structure:
1. Begin with a blessing and set the intention for the session.
2. Checking in on the previous week/s, and anything that has been coming up.
Sometimes, you may just need to talk in your session, in which case this sharing can take the whole session. However, often there is time beyond the ‘check-in/ initial exploration’ to undertake another activity to help you to gain insight and awareness.
3. Awareness & processing activity, which could be using objects, art, an activity in nature, guided visualisation, a structured written exercise, or a psycho-education tool.
I also draw on my training as a qualified Life Coach, qualified Confict Coach, and qualified NLP practitioner in these sessions.
Where do you offer the sessions from?
How much are the Creative Therapy sessions?
An introductory session costs £55 for 90 minutes, and is an opportunity for us to see if working together is a good fit. This session can be booked here: https://calendly.com/helentanner/introductorysession
After our introductory session, further sessions are bookable as a series of seven sessions.
A minimum of seven sessions to allow for the therapeutic relationship and process to unfold, and for you to begin to see positive change.
In these sessions, I will hold space for you, listen, witness, and use tools, techniques, and practical exercises drawn from my twenty years of qualified experience, to help you to process, gain awareness, transform and reach your desired outcomes.
A series of seven sessions is £385 (if paid weekly) or £350 (saving £35) if paid in full in advance.
What is your re-scheduling & cancellation policy?
When booking a series of sessions, you are welcome to pay for all of them in one advanced payment should you wish to do so.
If paying on a session by session basis, payment is due 48 hours in advance of the scheduled session date and time.
Re-scheduling of appointments by the client should be done at least 24 hours before the planned date and time of the scheduled session.
Where at least 24 hours notice is given by the client, an alternative session date and time will usually be offered free of charge, subject to availability.
If less than 24 hours notice is given, or the client does not show up for his/her appointment, the session will be deemed to have taken place and no refund will be given, and no alternative session will be offered in substitute.
If the Creative Psychotherapist (CP) has to cancel a session due to unforeseen circumstances, as much notice as possible will be given, and a transfer of the scheduled session to a new time and date convenient to both CP and client will be offered.
"These creative psychotherapy sessions with Helen have been a fantastic help. I realise what has been getting me into a depressive and anxious state, and how to now help myself. The sessions have been very empowering, given me the insight I needed, and have helped me to listen to myself. I have found the strength and courage to express how I feel. These sessions with Helen have taught me so much about myself, and I feel like I’m growing again, and that my journey is just going to get better."
"These creative therapy sessions with Helen have been really helpful in helping me identify why I feel the way I do, and this has been the only thing through everything that has given me the insight I needed. The therapist has been fantastic and I would highly recommend. Thank you. These sessions with Helen have quite possibly saved my life."
"After years of receiving therapy, psychotherapy, counselling, CPN, Victim Support, medication…these creative therapy sessions with Helen have helped me more, given me more insight, a safe space, supportive to explore issues that have been holding me back and been entrenched for years."
Helen is simply fantastic! She is incredibly engaging from the outset, insightful and empathetic, but also able to get deep to the root of issues with warmth, compassion and some very very clever techniques. Words don't do justice to what Helen achieves!
'It has been very refreshing working with Helen for the past few months. When I came looking for support after a relationship ending, I was drawn to her spiritual approach. I found it easy to trust her, and Ive learnt new creative ways of looking at life. My life is much more drama-free as I'm choosing peace, and feel lighter in myself. As well as the sessions together, Helen created a 'releasing ceremony' for me at an ancient hill, where I felt able to let go. Helen has thoroughly helped me through my healing journey, and I really can't recommend her enough."
‘‘These Creative Psychotherapy sessions have helped me deal with my issues and fears, and get me back to my artistic and creative self. Helen has a way of making you feel comfortable and encouraged. I have felt looked after, and more able to express myself. These sessions have been so relaxed, and I have been able to explore things that I wouldn’t normally. I think that without these sessions, I wouldn’t have been able to move forwards. I can’t really express how grateful I am. Wonderful!’
