It is a process of releasing feelings, beliefs, thoughts, blame, victimhood, the past, and suffering, in order to experience freedom, peace, and love.

Often we imagine that we are just goingto ‘drop them or ‘put them down” like we would a heavy box we’ve been carrying. Or, we are going to ignore them, hoping they will go away in time.![?](https://static.xx.fbcdn.net/images/emoji.php/v9/tee/1/16/1f611.png)

But ‘release’ in the forgiveness context is a little different and often involves shining a light onto the parts of ourselves that have been cast into shadow, and are being fed by darkness.
